Rooftop Wedding Flowers at Avon Gorge Hotel, Bristol

Samantha and Connor came to me in a way that was new to me – It all began with an enquiry from Samantha’s wonderful mother-in-law, who wanted me to create some bold, creative, and colourful modern wedding flowers to dress the couple’s welcome party at Armada House in central Bristol on the Thursday before the couples Sunday wedding. This was especially important as the couple were American, and guests had travelled a long way to be here. They wanted to thank them for making the journey with a joyful, impactful welcome celebration. We finalised a bright spring pastels palette, and then I was introduced to Samantha. At the time, I wasn’t sure if flowers were a big priority for the couple on their main wedding day. However, as soon as I got chatting to Samantha, it was clear this was not the case at all.

Samantha had an amazingly clear vision of exactly the look and feel she wanted for her wedding day. Even more delightful for me was that the colour palette couldn’t have been more opposite – opting for all white flowers with a touch of blue. This colourful accent was so beautiful and sophisticated, with the hint of colour really popping and making for such a wedding statement. Keep reading to see how we added my modern luxury wedding florals, bringing in classic and timeless design to the Avon Gorge Hotel for Samantha and Connor’s wedding day.

BRIDAL BOUQUET

For Samantha’s bridal bouquet, I crafted a natural, relaxed medium, hand-tied with a matching satin ribbon. Using beautiful stems of green to create the shape and add a wild feel, I wove in the best white seasonal flowers with a little touch of pale blue for a luxe, relaxed design. The result was stunning against Samantha’s beautiful lace-bodied A-line wedding dress and relaxed curls. The combination of this with the blue details of the bouquet was just exquisite.

WEDDING CEREMONY

For Samantha and Connor’s wedding ceremony, we decided to go for a statement floral installation. We created a broken arch with lots of whimsical greenery to frame the couple and the incredible view, perfectly suited as the ceremony was set on the rooftop of the Avon Gorge Hotel overlooking the Clifton Suspension Bridge. We achieved this using huge branches of amazing Birch from Cornwall (the best greenery around) as well as flowers from the bridal party flowers.

We began setting this up inside as the wind and rain had been deemed too much to have an outdoor ceremony. However, about an hour before they were due to say “I do,” the bride’s wish to have an outdoor ceremony was granted. This led to my team and me having to carry the arch up a set of steep metal stairs to the roof. We then had to work with speed and efficiency to flower the arch whilst securing the mechanics to ensure the arrangement would look beautiful and be safe in the winds. Fortunately, during the ceremony, as my freelancers and I walked to the suspension bridge to take a sneak peek, not only did the bride and groom look radiant framed by the arch gently blowing in the wind, but the sun made an appearance as they said their vows.

MIRROR / SIGNAGE FLOWERS

For the mirror and signage flowers, I created a meadow arrangement. This long, fresh design created the illusion of flowers growing up out of the floor and added the perfect touch of flowers and greenery to the base of the couple’s welcome sign and selfie mirror.

WEDDING BREAKFAST

For the wedding table flowers, I created stunning bowls filled with texture and scent, overflowing with beautiful flowers. We carefully placed them among the crockery and glassware on the tables. The soft-footed Gaia bowls elevated the table designs, ensuring they were seen perfectly by each guest in their eyeline as they sat for their meal, but still with enough room to chat over the beautiful blooms.

The arch was repositioned next to the couple’s top table, and the late afternoon sun poured in through the windows, making the whole arch glow.

Thank you so much to Samantha and Connor for letting me create their white and blue wedding flowers. Feeling inspired? Why not make your “something blue” an accent in your all-white wedding flowers?
