The Paintworks Event Space is a unique and versatile wedding venue located in the heart of Bristol. Known for its industrial vibe and open layout, it provides the perfect blank canvas for couples to personalise their big day. For the creative couple Lucy and Dan, the space was transformed into a colourful haven, adorned with fairy lights and personal touches in every corner, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
BRIDAL BOUQUET
For Lucy’s bridal bouquet, we started with a base of my favourite September wedding flower: dahlias. In tones of pink and peach, they added a soft romantic touch to the industrial wedding venue. We combined them with bright orange roses, oxeye daisies, and thistles—an important personal touch requested by the couple. This blend created a subtle nod to a wildflower palette with pastel tones that perfectly complemented Lucy’s modern patterned dress, giving off bohemian vibes. The combination was bursting with personality, just the way my colourful, creative flowers are meant to enhance your wedding day.
BUTTONHOLE
For Dan’s buttonhole, I combined a peach lisianthus with small orange spray roses and a thistle. The colour combination and materials perfectly complemented his bride’s bouquet. The smaller, fluffy stems of the flowers softened the bold colour scheme, creating impact on his dark lapel without drawing too much attention. Dan and his groomsmen wore variations of the thistle buttonholes, ensuring that this important element for the couple was present throughout the celebration and the wedding party.
BRIDESMAIDS
All five of Lucy’s bridesmaids held smaller versions of her bridal bouquet, creating a cohesive and charming look. The mini bouquets mirrored the same soft pastel tones, bright roses, and delicate thistles, tying the bridal party together beautifully. These smaller arrangements perfectly complemented the bridesmaids’ dresses and added a lovely touch of romance to the day.
CEREMONY
For the couple’s ceremony, we continued the beautiful floral colour scheme with floral meadows. These floor arrangements stood at the head and foot of the aisle, introducing a natural element that contrasted beautifully with the industrial surroundings. To brighten up the space, we also added aisle ends, with clusters of flowers in the same bright colours attached to the chairs. This created a vibrant, playful atmosphere as the couple said their vows, with wedding flowers that perfectly captured their personalities.
SIGNAGE
I love using floral meadows to dress the head and end of the aisle, and we were able to effortlessly repurpose them under the signage and table plans. Lucy and Dan did this beautifully, and the arrangements looked stunning all night long.
WEDDING BREAKFAST
Lucy and Dan sat down to their wedding breakfast in front of a wooden frame adorned with a neon “Mr and Mrs” sign, celebrating their new status as newlyweds. The room was filled with long banquet tables surrounded by friends, dressed with an abundant 45 bud vases. I find bud vases most effective when used en masse, as the variety of flowers and heights creates a wonderful floral tapestry that adds beauty from every angle.
