Winter Wedding at Coombe Lodge

Just before Christmas, I had the honour of working on my final wedding of the year. The night before, as I sat in a restaurant, a surreal moment unfolded. Every phone in the room blared simultaneously with a siren—a red weather alert warning of a fierce storm set to hit the following day. Despite the trepidation, I was due to travel to Blagdon for a wedding at Coombe Lodge. The strong winds made the journey challenging, but we pressed on. Once inside the church, the storm raged outside, creating an almost cinematic backdrop. Despite the odds, we managed to create something truly beautiful.

BRIDAL BOUQUET

The bride’s bouquet was a stunning creation that perfectly balanced the festive season with a soft, romantic touch. Vibrant red Christmas roses stood out against a delicate mix of darker reds, peaches, and whites. These floaty stems softened the winter palette, creating a design that was both seasonal and timeless.

BUTTONHOLES

The groom and his groomsmen wore buttonholes that echoed the theme of the day. A mix of dried and textural elements was paired with bright pops of roses, adding depth and character to their look while complementing the overall floral design.

BRIDESMAIDS

The bridesmaids carried smaller versions of the bride’s bouquet. These perfectly scaled-down arrangements ensured a cohesive look while allowing the bride’s bouquet to remain the focal point.

CEREMONY

Two dramatic urns flanked the altar, their full and detailed arrangements standing out against the ornate beauty of the church. These striking pieces added grandeur to the ceremony. Pew ends, designed in the wedding’s signature palette, tied the decor together and brought a touch of elegance to the intimate setting.

TOP TABLE

The urns were later repurposed to stand proudly behind the bride and groom’s top table, where they looked just as stunning as they had in the church. To embrace the season, we also created three custom wreaths that matched the design of the front door wreath. This thoughtful detail gave the venue a cohesive feel and celebrated the couple’s special day in every corner of the space.

WEDDING BREAKFAST

For the wedding breakfast, candelabras adorned with greenery and roses nestled within their branches became the stars of the show. With the venue’s power out due to the storm, the glow of candlelight created an enchanting atmosphere. The flickering light, paired with the low, stormy winter weather outside, made for a truly magical and unforgettable experience.

Thank you to the lovely couple for trusting me to bring their vision to life, even in the face of a red weather alert! It’s a testament to the power of love and determination that we pulled off such a spectacular day. If you’re planning a wedding at Coombe Lodge, let’s create something just as magical together—rain, shine, or storm!
